Most "natural" candles do not disclose which essential oils are used and if they're associated with pet risks. Just because something is natural doesn't mean it's safe (i.e. snake venom and poison ivy). If you have fur friends at home, our disclosure aims to allow you to be mindful of their air as well as your own.
🌳 Cedarwood Oil
Dogs & Cats: Generally considered safe when diluted (like in wax).
Often used in natural flea/tick sprays.
Verdict: ✅ Pet-safe option in candles with good ventilation.
🌲 Fir Needle Oil
Dogs & Cats: Generally considered low risk in candle use (diluted in wax, not applied directly).
Caution: Large exposures (like diffusing in a small, closed room for hours) can irritate airways. Cats are more sensitive because their livers can’t process certain compounds as well.
Verdict: ✅ Mostly safe in a well-ventilated room when used in candles.
🌸 Lavender Oil
Dogs: Usually tolerated well in small, diluted amounts.
Cats: Contains linalool & linalyl acetate, which cats cannot metabolize. Can cause nausea, drooling, or lethargy if ingested or in heavy airborne concentration.
Verdict: ✅ Because oils are diluted in wax, most cats are fine if the candle is burned in a well-ventilated room. Still, it’s not considered fully “pet-safe.”
🌿 Patchouli Oil
Dogs & Cats: Considered low-toxicity / safe when diluted.
No major compounds of concern like limonene or eucalyptol.ome reports of GI upset if ingested directly, but in candles it’s very diluted.
Heavier, earthy aroma may bother sensitive pets if the space isn’t ventilated.
